Seven Things about Adultery

  • God told us not to do it in His Ten Commandments.  "You shall not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14)
  • Jesus said don't do it. "Jesus said, 'you shall not murder,' 'you shall not commit adultery,' 'you shall not steal'" (Matt. 19:18)
  • Adultery brings judgment upon you. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4)
  • Adultery will destroy you.  "Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does so will destroy his own soul." (Prov. 6:32)
  • Adultery happens in the heart as well as the body. "I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matt. 5:28)
  • Adultery will cause you to lose out on all God has for you.  "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived.  Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites" (1 Cor. 6:9)
  • Adultery is entirely a work of the flesh, and as such it will reap death in your life. "The works of the flesh are evident which are adultery, fornication. uncleanness and lewdness" (Gal. 5:19)
