Beautiful Saturday Morning

Our Weekend Memoirs

It was a cold and foggy Saturday morning.

I saw a bird was standing beside the lake.

I wanted to take a clearer shot of the bird so I walked softly towards him. Unfortunately, he suddenly jumped into the water before I could take a shot of him.

He swam away......

.......far away.

The sun was up as I went back inside the house.

Lord, in the morning Thou shalt hear
My voice ascending high
To Thee will I direct my prayer
To Thee lift up mine eye.

Goin' Bananas

Bananas contain three natural sugar- sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder banana is the number 1 fruit with the world's leading athletes.

Energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk o blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school (England) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking and Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help trying to give up smoking. The B6 and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalized the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain, and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Stroke: According to research in The New England and Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%.

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape.

So, a banana is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has fourt times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the Vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value food around.

Going Paperless

Going paperless is the trend nowadays. It saves us space (i.e., less clutter), there's more security and organization and, yes, we help save the environment, too.

To help with document management sans the voluminous paper, folders and envelopes to store them, there are different computer programs to help us work, store, organize and share our records. We need not worry about confidential information as access to information stored in the computer can be restricted to third persons.

Health Care

As of December 2010, the unemployment rate in the U.S. was reported at 9.40 percent. However, opportunities in health care jobs continue to expand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics health related jobs like physician assistants, physical therapists and nurses are among the fastest growing careers today and will continue in the coming years. No wonder a lot of people shift to Nursing (or take this as a second course) or other health care courses. Not only are these jobs in demand, they also carry high paychecks.

The Cashmere

Cashmere is a soft luxurious fabric often used in scarves, shawl, wraps, coats and stole. It is also used in carpets, rugs, blankets and as a popular home decor like the cashmere throw which when draped over a chair or sofa gives the room a classy but homey feel. Due to its rarity, clothing or accessories made of cashmere are expensive. However, they are still in demand among textile and fashion connoisseurs.

The Lighthouse at Dawn

Our Weekend Memoirs

At the crack of dawn, we drove to the Hillsboro Inlet Park at Hillsboro Beach. Across the park, one can see clearly the historic Hillsboro Lighthouse.

Saving on Car Insurance

Car owners know that having car insurance is not only important, it is also a must - but they can also be expensive. I have read about ways of cutting car insurance costs like maintaining a good driving record, paying on time, driving less, and even discounts. There are different auto insurance companies around so it's worth comparing how much and what they have to offer.

On Microfiber Fabric

I prefer using microfiber cloths for glass cleaning (like my eyeglasses, computer screen) and dusting furniture because they do not leave behind dust residue or lint and also because the material is very soft, it does not scratch the surface of the glass and the furniture. They are also great as facial cloths and cleaning cars. The material is also stain resistant and durable which makes it an ideal furniture upholster fabric, especially for families with small children. These microfiber upholstery fabric comes in different colors and beautiful designs, too.

Butterflies and Flowers

"Bless the flowers and weeds, my birds and bees."

"Love is like a butterfly:
it goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes."

"Where flowers bloom so does hope."

"Each flower is a soul blossoming out to nature."

"Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward
and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies
that everyone loves."

"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit
the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."

"Love is like a butterfly;
hold it too tight, it'll crush. Hold it too loose, it'll fly."

Cellphones

Technology is evolving so fast. What is in today can already be passe tomorrow. Take for instance, cellphones. When I got my first cellphone in the late 90's, it only had a talk and text feature. Later, additional features were added in cell phones which enabled me to take and send pictures, email, and use Yahoo Instant Messenger. Now, cell phones have evolved into mini-computers with so many extra features a techie would love.

Android phones are very popular today. I have been using one for more than a year now. Although mine looks fairly new, technology-wise, it is nothing compared to other Android phones that are now in the market. It is said that the most powerful Android phone ever is the new htc desire. The phone is sleek and stylish, wide screen, and the body is light and thin. It comes with a 5 MP camera, flash video support, and fast processor and internet browser. Another must-see for the techie cellphone user out there.

Employment

A recent government survey showed that as of December 2010, unemployment rate in the US has dropped to 9.4%. However, a lot of states like Nevada, California, Michigan, Florida and Rhode Island still experience a significantly high unemployment rate. I live in Florida where unemployment rate is 12%. Therefore, I am thankful that although local jobs are not very easy to find here, I was able to find one in my field. My hard work, good education and prayer, have paid off.

The Secrets of Longevity

Healthy lifestyle (i.e.,vegetarianism, avoid smoking, avoid pork) and strong faith.

A Prayer

Dear Lord,

I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example- to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who don't believe. But I thank you that I believe.

I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers, for each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows that there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly.

This is my prayer.

In Jesus' name. Amen

Investing in Silver

People are constantly looking for ways to earn a living or what to do with their hard-earned funds to secure themselves and their loved-ones a better tomorrow. There are those who invest in silver bullion bars and/or collectible coins. Silver is a valuable asset and, although its price changes as the market fluctuates, it will never go down to zero unlike their other assets like bonds or stocks.

Birds on the Lake

Our Weekend Memoirs

Scenic Sunday

The birds were having fun on our backyard lake this morning but when they saw me coming towards them to take their pictures, they started swimming away towards the other side of the lake. These furry creatures must be camera-shy.

"Little brown duck on the northern lake
Where is your mother, it's getting late."

"When I see a bird that walks like a duck
and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck,
I call that bird a duck."

Five little ducks paddling to shore,
One paddled away, then there were four."

"They jump in the water
And bob up and down.
Quack, quack, quack
They swim all around."

"Be like a duck. Calm on the surface,
but always paddling like the dickens underneath."

"When they want to take a swim,
All they do is dive right in."

"It is not only fine feathers
that make fine birds."

"Paddle little ducks,
Paddle, paddle all day;
Paddle little ducks,
Paddle, paddle away."

"What kind of bird are you, if you can't fly?", said he.
To this the duck replied,
"What kind of bird are you if you can't swim?"
and dived into the pond.

"Why do birds sing in the morning?
It's the triumphant shout:
We got through another night!"

"The reason why birds can fly and we can't
is simply that they have perfect faith,
for to have faith is to have wings."

"Don't quack like a duck,
soar like an eagle."
