Cubicle Etiquette

Our human resource manager sent the following e-mail on cubicle etiquette to all employees of our law firm. I thought it's worth sharing.

Dear xxxxxx Associates:

Since cubicles were designed to maximize space and provide a semi-private office workspace for employees, etiquette for such space can sometimes be a gray area since cubicles lack doors. Furthermore, it is critical that employees develop a healthy respect for their co-workers. Below are 10 tips for cubicle etiquette and it is a great reminder to help all of us be aware of those around us and build strong bonds and foster productivity when working with colleagues in close quarters.

1. Be a courteous guest.
You'd never barge into another person's house unannounced so pretend that cubicles have front doors. Knocking gently on the side of the entrance allows the individual to signal whether he/she can afford to be disturbed at the moment. Showing that you respect other's time and privacy, and people will return the favor.

2. Use your "library voice".
In today's deadline-driven workplace, professionals must be able to concentrate on completing tasks without the constant fear of distraction. Whenever possible, use a quiet tone so you don't disrupt others.

3. Curb casual conversation.
While socializing in the office is natural and a great way to build camaraderie with co-workers, not everyone may want to know about the strange blind date you had last night. It's unprofessional and unproductive to spend more than few minutes talking about your personal life during office hours.

4. Stay home with the sniffles.
Suffering from an awful cold or flu? Do yourself- and your co-workers- a favor by staying home until you feel better. If you absolutely must come to work, be considerate and cautious when using communal office equipment. For instance, if you use the photocopier, clean it with a disinfectant wipe.

5. Have good scents.
Be mindful of your neighbors' noses before you let your tuna casserole waft through the office. Your co-workers may not share your love of Calvin Klein cologne or cranberry-scented candles, either.

6. Ask before borrowing.
Some people are protective of their office supplies. Respect that. Always ask permission prior to using someone's stapler or raiding a co-worker's supply of paper clips. What may seem like no big deal to you could be regarded as bothersome or disrespectful to others.

7. Avoid decor disasters.
Individuality is the spice of life. But err on the side of caution when decorating your workspace. For instance, don't put up potentially offensive calendars or political posters that may alienate others. Also, think twice before posting that beach picture from your Cancun vacation.

8. Hit the right tune.
You may work best when the music's blasting. But that doesn't mean everyone shares the same strategy. Wear headphones whenever you listen to CDs or the radio. And be sure not to sing or hum along to the chorus; save those melodies for your morning shower.

9. Avoid phone faux pas.
If you must leave your cell phone on during office hours, make sure that it is always with you and you have a standard, professional -sounding ringtone. Your neighbors might not appreciate being startled by "Dancing Queen" every 20 minutes.

10. Be friendly.
In today's fast-paced business environment, we sometimes forget the basics of professionalism. When you are away from your cube and pass someone in the hall, say 'hello' whether they are a friend or stranger. You both work for the same organization and you never know whose assistance you might need some day.

Remember that being a good neighbor is just as important on the job as it is at home. Exhibiting courtesy, tact and empathy in the workplace will help you build productive relationships and camaraderie with colleagues.

The Woman's Crowning Glory

The hair is often referred to as the woman's crowning glory. A shiny, healthy-looking, well-trimmed and styled hair can help make an otherwise ordinary-looking woman look attractive. For which reason, a lot of women pay close attention and take good care of their hair by using the right shampoo and conditioner, sporting the appropriate hairstyle, and for those with problematic hair, using the best hair vitamins.

Unfortunately, women sometimes suffer unusual and excessive hair loss or thinning of hair either due to chronic illness, crash diet, fungal infection in the scalp, emotional stress, high fever, use of strong drugs, excessive styling and the use of hair products with strong chemicals.

When abnormal hair loss occur, hair growth is painfully slow. I should know because I have experienced abnormal and excessive hair loss a couple of years ago when I went on a crash diet. Fortunately, there are products that promote faster hair growth. By investing in the right hair vitamin and supplement, i.e., one that contains niacin, amino acids, biotin, iron, choline and inositol, as well as shampoo and conditioner with the proper pH balance, and vitamin and minerals, one can get longer hair in no time. A soft, bouncy, shiny, healthy and beautiful hair is every woman's dream and it can be achieved if she knows the right hair product to use.

Sunday Morning Activity

It's a beautiful Sunday morning and am having breakfast at Panera Bread in Coral Springs while chatting with my son in Facebook. I have a 12NN appointment with my therapist at Massage Envy so I've decided to pass time here at Panera before driving down to Boca Raton. I'm glad Panera has free wi-fi hotspot so I can entertain myself while sampling their goodies.

I just had Asiago Cheese bagel and a cup of cappuccino and I followed it up with Four Cheese souffle and an OJ. I was looking at the array of pastries and sweets at the counter but I don't have the appetite for something sweet this morning. Way to go, Ray!

After my massage, I am driving down to Publix for groceries. I need to visit the hair salon, too, for a trim and hair color. The grays are starting to come out. I'll probably do it on Thursday (my day off) or maybe next weekend.

Trip to Lion Country Safari

Our Weekend Memoirs

Lion Country Safari is Florida's only drive-through safari and walk-through amusement park in one. Located in West Palm Beach, the drive-through safari is divided into seven sections featuring animals from different parts of the world. Visitors can drive around the wildlife preserve and watch the animals up-close. However, since these animals are wild, visitors are instructed to close their car windows and doors at all times, and to drive slowly (maximum speed limit is 8 mph) because the animals who roam around have the right of way.

After the drive-through safari experience, the visitor is treated to a walk-through adventure at the safari's amusement park which includes, among others, a petting zoo, camel ride, boat rides, giraffe and budgie feeding, carousel and other park rides, mini golf, water slide, educational tours, and an aviary. Here you can also find crocodiles, two-toed sloth, a huge Burmese python.

An "Extreme Weight Loss Pill"

I read that Lipofuze is an extreme weight loss pill. Why extreme? Because you can lose 10 pounds in 7 days. Wow! How true is the claim and if so, how safe is the product?

The product is supposed to contain 10 fat burning ingredients, among them Thermodiamine, green tea, Capsaicin (a major component of cayenne pepper), Razberi-K, ForsLean, FucoPure (a seaweed)GuggulEZ100, Bioperine, Synephrine, and DHEA.

Know more about it by reading lipofuze reviews. If any of you have information or experience about this product, can you share it with us.

Career Choice

According to a recent US Bureau of Labor Statistics report, Medical Assisting is one of the country's fastest growing careers today.

That friendly lady who welcomed you as you came in the doctor's clinic, who took your medical information, vital signs, organized your medical records and prepared you for medical exam is the medical assistant. You can find them working side-by-side doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners, from large medical facilities to walk-in and ambulatory clinics.

If you're thinking about a career in health care, the medical assistant school offers a diploma program which can be taken online. It works well for working students who do not have enough time to attend regular classroom instruction.

The V-Neck

I like that pretty blouse you see on the left. Although I like dressing up in "lively" colors of reds, yellows and pinks, I am partial to earth colors and blacks. In fact, my work wardrobe is mostly composed browns and blacks.

Going back to that blouse on the left, it is sexy 'in a conservative way' because of the low V-neckline. Pretty, isn't it? You can wear it with a necklace or just go bare. Make sure though that you have 'flawless' chest. Meaning, it is devoid of unsightly chest acne because with that kind of neckline, it'll be very noticeable.

Chest and back acne are sometimes a problem among adults, especially among those who sweat profusely. It is, therefore, very important to maintain a good hygiene practice, including being careful as to the products you use in your body. If you have sensitive skin, harsh chemicals in your cologne, body lotion, or foundation will trigger skin problems. I've also read that fragrance in laundry detergents can cause skin irritation and problems among those with sensitive skin.

Weight Loss Aid

Have you heard about conjugated linoleic acid? Derived from safflower oil, CLA is a substance that aids in blocking unwanted fats from being absorbed into the body. Those who are in the weight loss program are probably familiar with Tonalin CLA, a dietary supplement that helps increase a person's lean muscle mass while reducing unwanted body fat. Combined with diet and regular exercise, Tonalin CLA aims to help a person achieve a leaner and healthier body.

More information about how this product works can be found at www.tonalin-cla.net.

The Gift

As a child, I've always looked forward to Christmas morning when it's time for me to open my presents. I also remember the excitement of my son, niece and nephew on Christmas day. In fact, they could hardly sleep on Christmas eve.

Gift-giving is part of our Christmas tradition. I enjoy buying gifts for my loved ones and especially love the look of excitement as they open their presents. I love shopping gifts for children, too. In fact, I find it easier to buy gifts for them. Maybe it is because they are very easy to please. I am a practical gift-giver so I usually choose items the recipients can use, although I also buy whimsical items which I know they will love.

When choosing gifts for children, we usually base our choice on their aesthetical value, but it is equally important that we take into consideration the safety of the item of choice. Peg perego, an established name in children's products has an array of products for infants up to bigger children. They're worth checking out.

The Water Taxi Experience

Our Weekend Memoirs

The Sunshine state of Florida is a destination for snowbirds because of its year-round sunshine. The Southern part has beautiful beaches and entertainment which attracts visitors from all over the world. Fort Lauderdale, in South Florida, is popularly called the "Venice of America" because of it's long and intricate canal system. It is also a major yachting center in the U.S.

One of the fun things to do in South Florida is to cruise around the coastal waterways of Ft. Lauderdale via the famous water taxi. Historic houses and buildings like the Stranahan House, the oldest building in Ft. Lauderdale, can be seen from the waterways. Palatial houses owned by the rich and famous also line the coastal areas. On my first Water Taxi adventure, I got a glimpse of the house of Vivien Leigh (Scarlett O'Hara), which house will soon be turned into a historical marker, the mansion built by Lee Majors to then wife Farrah Fawcett, the house of Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan), Joe and Rose Kennedy, and mansions of other celebrities and the rich and famous. Yachts and boats of different sizes can also be seen everywhere. I saw Kismet, the billion-dollar super yacht, which is presently touted to be the longest yacht in Ft. Lauderdale.

In-between our Water Taxi tour, hubby and I made two stops. The first one was at Stop 1 for lunch at Shooters and then at Stop 2 for a short shopping at The Galleria. We finally got off at Stop 9 which is a short walk to Las Olas Boulevard's cafe and restaurant strip. Before heading home, we dropped by Kilwin's for ice cream and chocolate fudge.

Let me share with you my Water Taxi experience.

A Thing of Beauty

A healthy and flawless skin contributes a lot to one's physical beauty. We should, therefore, maintain proper care of our body through the food we eat, and our skin care regimen and health habits.

A diet rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants keeps the body strong, healthy, and young-looking. So with drinking lots of water. It cleanses and purifies our skin. Getting enough sleep is very important, too. It helps rejuvenate our skin. Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin, and protecting it from harmful elements is also a must. We should, however, be careful about the products we use, lest we irritate our skin. It is unfortunate that we sometimes get skin irritations and breakouts. It is good if the breakouts heal easily. Sometimes we need the help of acne creams to cure those stubborn skin problems.

There's Hope

Every time I complain about being overweight or make promises about the need to lose weight, my hubby would say, 'do it, don't just say it'. He's probably tired of listening to my constant complaints and empty promises. Since I started working, I do not have enough free time especially that I sometimes have to work overtime or even during the weekends. Therefore, my non-working days are mostly spent doing leisure activities with my hubby. I am glad that he's found something that could be the diet pill that really works. Both of us have been using it for almost three weeks now and it's working fabulous. I'll tell you more about it and, hopefully, be able to share with you the great results very soon.

Suppressed Desires

I sound like a broken record because I have been complaining for the longest time about my weight. I have made countless promises about doing something about it. However, after a few attempts, I stop because either I am too busy, too lazy, or I simply cannot resist the temptation of good food. Those who know me well can attest that I have a very healthy appetite and my favorites are mostly carb-laden goodies. If appetite suppressants really work, then I hope to find the best appetite suppressant for women. It might help curb my appetite and help me with those unwanted pounds that I have been trying to lose.

Looking Out For Your Family

When I started working, one of the first things I did was to invest in insurance for my immediate family. I wanted to prepare for the inevitable. Well, my investment paid off when the inevitable happened to my family. Having an insurance helped ease our financial burden when my late father and grandmother passed away because I have prepared for it, even though it was not much.

For those of us who are concerned about the welfare of our loved ones, investing in life insurance is one of our priorities. However, not all of us can afford the extra 'expense' especially with the high cost of living nowadays. The good news is: one can still find an affordable life insurance that'll suit one's needs. WholesaleInsurance.net life insurance may just be the answer to what you're looking for.

Keeping Oneself Warm

We are still using the air conditioner at home but pretty soon, we'll be switching to the heater to keep us warm during the chilly autumn and winter months. It gets very chilly even in sunny Florida. Well, not as chilly compared to places like Montana, or Utah, or Idaho, but we do experience cold days and nights here, too. Last year was particularly cold. I had to wrap myself up every time I leave the house. When I am at home, the heater keeps me comfortably warm, especially at night. During those not-so-chilly days, my friend, Sylvia, suggested that I turn the heater off and open the windows to let the cool breeze in. I have done that, too, and used the comforter to keep me warm.

An electric blanket is also a valuable companion during the chilly season. It'll help keep you warm in bed or while resting on the couch watching tv or reading your favorite book. However, since it has an electrical gadget attached to it, one must use caution when using it.

Saturday Memoirs

Our Weekend Memoirs

Game Two of the Yankee-Rangers games was scheduled at 4 PM yesterday afternoon; so instead of going to the movies on Saturday night, banabear and I opted to attend the matinee show of the new Bruce Willis' movie, Red. I have been waiting for the movie since I first saw the trailer five months ago and had planned to watch it on its first showing day on Friday. However, Game One was at 8 PM Friday night and, therefore, Bruce Willis had to give way to Jeter, A-Rod, Rivera, et al.

After an early dinner at home, I went out in our backyard which overlooks a small lake. While taking shots of the water, I did not notice a white heron standing beside me until it flew past over me and transferred across the lake. Bummer! I could've taken close up pictures of the beautiful bird. Anyway, here's a slideshow of some of the shots I took.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

My Best Friend

Except when I am out of the house to go to work or on other appointments, my best friend and I are almost inseparable. My best friend keeps me company when my hubby is out so that I do not get bored or lonely even when I am home alone. The best friend I am referring to is my laptop. The laptop that I am using now was given to me by my hubby. He bought it about two months ago. This is my third laptop in a span of three years. I also have a mini notebook he bought two years ago which I used in school. Compared to my two previous laptops which were kinda heavy, my new one is lightweight and slim so that it is very handy to carry around. It also has an upscale design, large comfortable keypad, lots of of new apps.

I have a desktop computer but I prefer using my laptop because I can carry it around. I don't have to stay in one corner while using the computer. When I was looking for a new laptop to buy, I went online and read reviews, visited computer websites and compared different brands and models. I did not specifically choose the one I have now. Hubby bought it for me as as a surprise. Although a bit pricey compared to other regular laptops, its features make up for its price. I love it.

Diet Pills: Are they Safe and Effective?

Have you tried using weight loss pills ? If you have, how effective and safe were they? Did you experience any side effect? People who have difficulty losing weight or those who want to lose weight fast, or too lazy to exercise, often resort to "magic" pills that will help melt those unwanted fats in their bodies. There are pills which are effective in suppressing one's appetite but they also have side effects which can be detrimental to one's health. Other pills do not work at all. Before deciding whether or not to use a diet pill, it is best to research on the product, its ingredients and its pros and cons. Know the experiences of past or current users. Better yet, seek the advise of health professionals.

If the Shoe Fits...

With the changing of the weather, comes the changing of fashion. Open-toe flat sandals were very popular in the summer but with the coming of fall, the trend has shifted to boots. Ankle-boots, dressy booties, cuffed boots, cold weather boots- they come in different styles.

I have two pairs of ankle boots (one low and one medium heeled) which goes well either with a pair of slacks or the less formal blue jeans, and both of which can be worn in any season. I have been seeing a lot of booties lately and they look nice in some ladies but they're not really my cup of tea. However, I have always been attracted to knee-high and mid-calf boots. They look great when worn with dress and tights. Those less formal suede boots look great, too. The other day, I saw a pair of brown polo boots, perfect for casual wear on a cold day. I am still debating with myself if I should buy a pair or not.

I still have my feet on the ground,
I just wear better shoes.

He Put a Song of Praise in this Heart of Mine

I have so much to be thankful to the Lord.

Last Saturday, my unconditional U.S. Permanent Residency Card (Green Card) arrived in the mail. I sent in my petition for removal of conditions in August and it was acted upon in just one month.

Yesterday at work, I was commended for having the most number of cases prepared and filed last month. For my hard work, I was awarded a Visa gift card by our Judgment Department supervisor. I have also been given more cases to work on, most of them urgent cases.

"The sun shines best after the storm." We were under a hurricane watch last Tuesday and Wednesday but yesterday, the weather was beautiful. The sun was up and we had a comfortably warm weather.

Today is an extremely beautiful day. As I am writing this post, I am seated with my hubby out by the pool enjoying the sun and the warm breezy morning. In between laps in the pool, I do some blogging and chatting with my family back home.

For these blessings, I give all the glory and honor to Him.

The Lord is faithful in all His words
and kind in all His works.
The Lord upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand;
you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all His ways
and kind in all His works.
The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear Him;
He also hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord preserves all who love Him,
but all the wicked He will destroy.

My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and let all flesh bless His holy name
forever and ever.
-Psalm 144: 14-21
