When we think of Indonesia, we usually associate it with beach resorts like those found in the world famous Bali island, the nation's primary tourist destination. It also has some of the best dive sites in the world, well-preserved beaches, parks and temples.
Aside from its tourism industry, Indonesia is also known for a particular kind of cigarette made from a mixture of tobacco and clove. Called "kretek" by locals, it is the most widely-smoked cigarette in the country. According to history, a man named Haji Jamahri who was suffering from chest pains, rubbed clove oil on his chest to alleviate the pain. However, when he smoked a hand-rolled cigarette which he made from a mixture of tobacco, dried cloves and rubber tree sap, his chest pains vanished immediately. A popular brand of kretek called djarum, are little cigars which come in different blends and flavors.
