Halloween Treats

Our Weekend Memoirs

My first Halloween party in the U.S.

I come from the Philippines where Halloween is normally observed as All Saints Day (November 1) and All Souls Day (November 2). Traditionally, it is a time to remember the dead loved ones by visiting their graves and bringing flowers, lighting a candle or holding a mass in their honor.

In the U.S., Halloween is an annual festival celebrated every October 31st. Activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, carving jack-o-lanterns, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror films.

I have been in the U.S. for almost three years but it was only last night that I went to my first Halloween party.

We attended the biggest Halloween party in Fort Lauderdale last night. It was celebrated at Shooters Waterfront Cafe where two restaurants, more than 10 bars and the entire street within that area was filled with party people in freaky costumes.

Before proceeding to Shooters, we had a little cocktail party at Jill's place which was just across Shooters.

After Shooters, we went to Sullivan's, a restaurant and pub at Pompano Beach. Last stop was City Pub, our hang out at Deerfield Beach.

Thanks to my new friends for making my first Halloween party fun!

Great pictures! Looked like a lot of fun. This was my first Halloween in the Philippines after moving here with my beautiful Filipina wife. Our nieces had a huge Halloween party and disco dance at their high school, but we didn't have any trick or treaters!
Great post!
