Orange juice is one of my favorite drinks for its sweet delicious flavor.
Orange, the sweet and juicy citrus fruit, is a good source of Vitamin C which is necessary for the proper functioning of our immune system. Aside from immune support, it is also a good source for antioxidant and protection against cardiovascular disease.
Spanish explorers introduced oranges to Florida in the 16th century. Before Mickey Mouse built his Kingdom in Central Florida, particularly in Orlando, the place was a sleepy town with lakes, pine forests and citrus groves, located mostly in Orange County.
When I visited downtown Orlando, particularly Orange County, I did not see any orange groves there. Instead, I was greeted with the sight of tall buildings. Well, I have not been around much in that area so I must've missed the orange trees which are still growing there.
There is, however, a section in Orange County Regional History Center that is dedicated to the birth and history of the orange industry in Central Florida.
I first saw the site for Disneyland back in 1953,
in those days it was all flat land-
no rivers, no mountains, no castles or rocket ships-
just orange groves, and a few acres of walnut trees.
