Flex Your Muscles, Baby!


When I was taking street fighting lessons, our Fight Club shared the same venue with a bodybuilding club. There I'd see guys of different sizes working out to build their muscles. On a couple of occasions, I'd see some of them practicing their "poses" in preparation for a bodybuilding contest. They looked like beauty pageant contestants doing their turns, except that they'd flex and show the bulges in their arms and those six-pack abs while striking a pose.

I can easily spot the more seasoned bodybuilder from a beginner because the seasoned ones look heavier and have more prominent and toned muscles. It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to achieve that ala-Mr. Universe look. They have to train hard, eat correctly, practice clean and healthy living (strictly no smoking, avoid staying up late and too much drinking), and for those wanting to build muscle fast, taking in adequate amounts of protein and muscle-building supplements.
