Thankfulness in the Midst of Trials

When we become too absorbed with the pleasures of the world, we begin to take a lot of things for granted. Bit by bit, our values become distorted as we give in to temporal pleasures and the lure of the "good things" the world has to offer.

Work, the quest for success, even carnal pleasures, distract people from taking time to reflect on the good, albeit, ordinary things in life.

Life is tough and will always be filled with ups and downs; but this is not a perfect world, and until we get to that place which He has prepared for us, we will never experience perfect happiness.

When life is all storms and gloomy days, can we still say, "thank you, Lord"?

Things happen for a purpose. Trials may be the Lord's way of teaching us a lesson for our waywardness. We may have strayed away for too long and because He loves us, He is calling us to return to the fold.

The trials we experience may also be the Lord's way of honing our character to perfection: to make us stronger and more faithful.

"Thank You Lord"
Dan Burgess

Thank You, Lord
For the trials that come my way
In that way I can grow each day
As I let You lead
And I thank You, Lord
For the patience those trials bring
In that process of growing
I can learn to care

But it goes against the way I am
To put my human nature down
And let the Spirit
Take control of all I do
For when those trials come
My human nature shouts the things I do
And God's soft prompting
Can be easily ignored.

But I thank You, Lord
With each trial I feel inside
That You're there to help
Lead and guide me away from wrong
For You promised, Lord
That with every testing
That Your way of
Escaping's easier to bear

And I thank You, Lord
For the victory that growing brings
In surrender of everything
Life is so worthwhile
And I thank You, Lord
That when everything's put in place
Out in front I can see Your face
And it's there You belong.
